{"id":51213,"date":"2025-03-19T11:28:10","date_gmt":"2025-03-19T11:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www-test.unipi.it\/international-students\/visit-and-exchange-programmes\/programma-studenti-di-scambio\/"},"modified":"2025-04-29T08:56:07","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T08:56:07","slug":"exchange-student-programme","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www-test.unipi.it\/en\/international-students\/visit-and-exchange-programmes\/exchange-student-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Exchange Student Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<strong> Exchange Student Programme<\/strong> is designed for international students who wish to spend a period at the University of Pisa to attend courses or participate in a traineeship programme, based on a non-Erasmus inter-university or inter-departmental agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Students interested in mobility within the Erasmus+\/Erasmus programme should instead consult the dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/www-test.unipi.it\/didattica\/studi-e-tirocini-allestero\/studiare-allestero\/programma-erasmus\/\">pages<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/erasmusmobility.unipi.it\/erasmus\/welcome\/\">portal<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>In order to attend courses in Italian, it is recommended to have at least a B1 level of language proficiency, unless otherwise stipulated in the agreements.<\/p>\n<h2>Who can participate<\/h2>\n<p>To participate in the programme, you must be a student enrolled at a foreign university with which the University of Pisa has a bilateral agreement.<\/p>\n<h2>Period of stay at the University of Pisa<\/h2>\n<p>The period of stay of exchange students at the University of Pisa must refer to that provided for in the relevant agreement.<\/p>\n<h2>Deadlines<\/h2>\n<p>Submitting an application is always possible but, in order to attend the courses, it is important to remember that the academic calendar is divided into two semesters:<\/p>\n<p>First semester &#8211; September to February<br \/>\nSecond semester &#8211; February to July<\/p>\n<p>To enable the Department to process the letter of acceptance to the programme within the necessary technical timeframe, it is advisable to submit the application:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>by 31 May to attend courses in the first semester or in the entire academic year<\/li>\n<li>by 31 October to attend courses in the second semester<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Application procedure for the exchange programme<\/h2>\n<h3>Prior to departure<\/h3>\n<p>Contact the International Office of your relevant foreign university to check for any agreements with the University of Pisa or the Department of interest.<\/p>\n<p>If it is possible to activate mobility, choose the courses you want to take from those available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www-test.unipi.it\/en\/education\/courses\/\">educational offer of the University of Pisa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To apply, you must send your application to exchange@unipi.it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www-test.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Modulo_Learning_Agreement_1-3.pdf\">application request with the Learning Agreement\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the Transcript of records of completed exams from the university of origin<\/li>\n<li>a photocopy of your identity document &#8211; passport for non-EU students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When your application request is accepted, you will receive an<a href=\"https:\/\/www-test.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lettera_accettazione_-_EXCHANGE_students_-_novembre_21.pdf\">acceptance letter <\/a>from the academic staff of the department of the University of Pisa with which your university has an agreement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Non-EU citizens residing abroad<\/strong>, in non-Schengen countries, after receiving the acceptance letter and before applying for a visa, must pre-register on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universitaly.it\/\">UniversItaly portal<\/a>, managed by the Ministry of University and Research.<\/p>\n<p>To pre-register:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sign up<\/li>\n<li>choose the University of Pisa for the exchange period<\/li>\n<li>upload the acceptance letter<\/li>\n<li>choose the Italian diplomatic mission (Embassy or Consulate) where you will apply for the visa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do not indicate your tax code if you do not already have one, and the ID of the chosen university.<\/p>\n<p>When your application is validated by the University, you will receive a notification from the portal and you will find the <strong>Summary<\/strong> in PDF at the bottom of your UniversItaly page.<\/p>\n<p>Only then you can apply for a <a href=\"https:\/\/vistoperitalia.esteri.it\/home\/it\">visa at the Embassy<\/a>, attaching the previously printed Summary<\/p>\n<p>For any further information, please contact the Italian Embassy in your country of residence.<\/p>\n<p>To obtain the tax code, you can contact the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence before arriving in Italy (highly recommended).<\/p>\n<p>The tax code is essential for accessing services provided by public organisations (e.g. enrolling in University and in the National Health Service), signing contracts (e.g. employment or rental contracts), opening a current account, but also for buying a phone card.<\/p>\n<h3>Arrival in Italy<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Non-EU citizens residing in non-Schengen<\/strong> countries, participating in an exchange programme exceeding 90 days, and those holding a type D visa, must apply for a r<strong>esidence permit within 8 working days of their arrival in Italy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>All information is available on the dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/www-test.unipi.it\/en\/about-us\/international-relations\/welcome-services\/\">web pages for international students reception<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Non-EU citizens residing in Schengen countries<\/strong>, holding a valid visa and\/or residence permit of the Schengen country they come from and having an acceptance letter as exchange students, within 8 days of their arrival in Italy must go <strong>to the Questura di Pisa<\/strong>, Via Lalli 3, and fill in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poliziadistato.it\/statics\/39\/modulo_dichiarazione_presenz_cittadini_ue.pdf\">declaration of presence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Procedure for enrolling at the University of Pisa as an exchange student<\/h2>\n<p>Register online on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studenti.unipi.it\/Home.do\">Alice Portal<\/a>, entering your personal data, and send the following documentation to <a href=\"https:\/\/www-test.unipi.it\/en\/about-us\/international-relations\/welcome-services\/wis\/\">WIS!<\/a> (<a href=\"mailto:wis@unipi.it\">wis@unipi.it<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>copy of your identity document &#8211; passport for non-EU citizens<\/li>\n<li>acceptance letter from the host department<\/li>\n<li>residence permit or a copy of the post office receipt proving the submission of the release request (only for non-EU citizens who are in Italy).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After finalising your enrolment, and <strong>only if you are in Italy<\/strong>, you will receive your Student Card by post: indicate the address where you will receive the documentation on your personal profile on the Alice portal.<\/p>\n<h2>Rights, obligations and services<\/h2>\n<p>Exchange students:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>are entitled to take exams and obtain credits without paying university fees. At the end of the study period, they will receive a certificate for the work carried out<\/li>\n<li>must independently arrange their stay in Pisa (food, accommodation, healthcare, etc.);<\/li>\n<li>have access to the same services as the students enrolled at the University of Pisa (enrolment in language courses at the <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.cli.unipi.it\/\">University Language Centre,<\/a> access to university libraries, IT services and university canteens)<\/li>\n<li>after arriving in Pisa, they can find a welcome and support service at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www-test.unipi.it\/en\/about-us\/international-relations\/welcome-services\/welcome-office\/\">Welcome Office of the University of Pisa<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Exchange Student Programme is designed for international students who wish to spend a period at the University of Pisa to attend courses or participate in a traineeship programme, based on a non-Erasmus inter-university or inter-departmental agreement.
