Course Description

Level: Degree Programme

Degree Class: L-26 R - Food Sciences

Department: AGRICULTURAL, FOOD AND AGRO-ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES

Admission: Free

Duration: 3 years

The degree course in Food Sciences trains professionals to work in various fields of the food industry, with a solid technical-scientific background in food sciences and theoretical-practical training in the agri-food sector.   The study programme is developed in a transversal way, covering the main disciplinary areas: from food technologies to food safety, to economic-legal fields. The training plan explores topics ranging from the chemical and physical composition of food to its interaction and functionality in the human body, and delves into aspects of primary production, processing technologies and marketing. An essential aspect of the course is the traineeship programme, which allows the practical application of the knowledge acquired, promoting direct contact with the workforce: a part will take place at the facilities of the University of Pisa, while the remaining part can be carried out in companies or organisations operating in the food sector. The course allows access to the State examination for qualification as Junior Agronomist and Forester.
